The Venus Project, confronting problems that face modern society

June 27, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The Venus Project presents a bold, new direction for humanity that entails nothing less than the total redesign of our culture. There are many people today who are concerned with the serious problems that face our modern society: unemployment, violent crime, replacement of humans by technology, over-population and a decline in the Earth’s ecosystems.

As you will see, The Venus Project is dedicated to confronting all of these problems by actively engaging in the research, development, and application of workable solutions. Through the use of innovative approaches to social awareness, educational incentives, and the consistent application of the best that science and technology can offer directly to the social system, The Venus Project offers a comprehensive plan for social reclamation in which human beings, technology, and nature will be able to coexist in a long-term, sustainable state of dynamic equilibrium.

It really is different this time

June 23, 2009 · 1 Comment

This time is different. Protecting the environment is now at the center of government and business efforts to promote economic growth. This goes well beyond the $94 billion in short term investment that the US government has targeted for green jobs and environmental innovation, or the $2.6 billion that the Canadians are spending along the same lines or even the more than $200 billion the Chinese government will spend.

This time, more businesses are taking a leadership role in calling for new and long needed measures to protect the environment.

This time, we’ve also learned an important lesson. Improving our environment and our health is good business.

Biomodd, collaborative art project that integrates nature and technology

June 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Biomodd is an interactive and collaborative art project that integrates nature and technology. The aim of the project is to create an art installation in which different forms of plant life coexist with a fully functioning computer system. This system is built almost entirely from recycled computers, and plant growth is stimulated by the excess heat of the working electronics. Visitors can interact with this art installation by playing a multiplayer computer game that runs on this hybrid system. Conceived by Belgian artist Angelo Vermeulen and first developed in the USA, the idea is now being expanded and relaunched in the Philippines.

How To Offer A Great Volunteer Experience (5 of 6)

June 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Posted by Realizedworth on 20 Jun 2009

Demote Your Staff To Create Limitless Potential.

Massive change is sweeping through the business world. Corporate Social Responsibility is precipitating thousands of new Employer-Sponsored Volunteer Programs. But can non-profit organizations handle the huge increase of volunteers coming their way? Maybe not. If non-profits do not reinvent their current volunteer management model, they threaten to suffocate these brilliant new efforts and disenfranchise the volunteers who come through their programs.

Non-profits and community organizations are due for a change: they must understand that volunteers are the key to achieving their mission. Unfortunately, this new understanding will require NPO’s to demote their entire staff.

Ethics for social entrepreneurs

June 21, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Professor David Batstone offers ten Principles for entrepreneurial ethics.

Are you a real social entrepreneur?

1. Company directors and management will consider their work force valuable team members, not merely hired labor.
2. A company will think of itself as a part of a community, not just a “market.”
3. A company will take every possible care to ensure the quality and safety of the products it brings to the public.
4. A company will treat the environment as a silent “stakeholder,” a party to which it is wholly accountable.
5. A company will strive to diversify the kind of people who lead and manage its affairs.
6. A company will pursue international trade and production based on reciprocal exchanges that respect the same rights accorded its own people.
7. A company will nurture an organizational culture that encourages its employees to give critical feedback on unethical practices, and even “blow the whistle” when their voices are ignored.
8. A company will protect the privacy rights of its suppliers, customers, and employees.
9. A company will deliver what it promises, and promise what it can deliver.
10. A company will not seek to generate any revenue from practices that threaten life.

June 18, 2009 · Leave a Comment

18/06/2009

The European Commission has launched the “Your World, Your Business” campaign to encourage young people in schools to debate the role of enterprises in helping society and protecting the environment. At a time when economic models are questioned, the campaign, based on a film in which young entrepreneurs show how their firms are helping society, seeks to inspire young people to set up responsible businesses themselves.

Ecouter : France Inter 30 05 2009 Monnaies complémentaires

June 17, 2009 · Leave a Comment
